3 Quick and Simple SEO Tricks to Get Your Fitness Website on Page 1 of Google

SEO tricks personal trainer

Want to be on page one of Google? Of course you do. Everyone wants to be on page one of Google. Me too! In this article I’ll be talking about the top 3 quick and easiest way to get your fitness website on page one of Google.

Each tip is free and costs nothing but your time. If you’d like, we can also take care of the whole process for you as it’s what we do for our existing clients. Let’s get into it.

1. Optimise Pages Separately

While you want your website to rank on page one of Google for your main keyword, for example “personal trainer London” if you’re a personal trainer London, it’s a common mistake to optimise all of your website pages for that keyword.

Google uses the authority of each page to understand what your website is about and it’s unlikely to rank all of your pages for a single keyword.

Instead, it will try to decide which is most likely related to the topic being searched and rank that one. So all of the other pages will get zero attention.

Ideally, you’d optimise each page for whatever that page is about. For example, your About page would be optimised for you and your company so that when someone sees you on social media and Google’s you, it comes up in the search results.

The process for each page might look like this...

Now the authority of your About page has gone up and that will boost the authority of your site as a whole.

2. Get Google My Business

This is the oldest and simplest trick in the book. It works so well that we have whole guides on it.

A Google My Business page is a business listing by Google that shows to potential clients when they look for your service in your area.

You’ve probably seen the map listing yourself when searching for local services.

While the map listing doesn’t directly help you rank on page one in the organic search results, you’ll be on page one on the map listings that appear at the top of the Google search results.

I’ll link to the guide on how to set this up below but the TLDR version is:
  • Get a Google My Business page
  • Fill it out with as many details as you can
  • Get some reviews from your client, ideally 5 or more
  • Find as many other local business directories as you can and list your business in there.

That’s it. Here’s the full guide. The whole thing might take you a few days on and off but the results are well worth it.

3. Rank Your Blog (Not Your Home Page)

This trick is new. It’s new because not so long ago, Google changed the way they rank pages and what they show to searchers.

In my opinion, for the worse, because you’ll notice most searches for a business get you a top 10 list as opposed to the actual businesses.

A lot of people lost rankings when Google switched things up but we just changed the way we SEO for our clients.

Now, instead of trying to rank the home page for “personal trainer London” as an example, we write a blog on the top 20 personal trainers in London and include the business we’re SEOing for.

To give you an idea of just how effective this is, we tried to rank our sister site, the Institute of Personal Trainers, which doesn’t even provide PT services, for the keyword “personal trainer London”.

This is a highly competitive keyword as you can imagine and here is the result after just 2 months.

Keep in mind we made zero paid ads to this page and just promoted it on our Facebook page like any other post.

Blogs are ranking better than main pages. Especially list style blogs that offer top 10’s and top 20’s.

What Next?

Go and optimise your pages properly, get yourself a Google My Business page and write a kick ass blog for your business and location and see for yourself. Or have us do it for you.
